Pro Wrestling Review: Summerslam 2013 Review part 1

What's up everybody; I know that I didn't upload an article on this column last week but I did upload one on my other column TV Movie Review. The article was my Man of Steel Review. The link to that column is in my twitter profile: @ENC98. This article though is going to be part one of my 2013 Summerslam review.

Kickoff Show U.S. Title Dean Ambrose vs RVD

I only saw the last bit of this match and from that it seemed like a solid match but I do wish that it wouldn't have been on the pre show. Especially since it turned out to be the Shield's only match on the ppv they would've looked more important if it hadn't been on the pre show.

Ring of Fire Match: Bray Wyatt vs Kane

This match had a lot of people interested in it and I don't think it really delivered as much as people expected it to. For one the ring of fire concept didn't really work; while it was cool: the reason for it was so then nobody could interfere in the match and that didn't end up working because the other two Wyatt family members grabbed a blanket from the firemen at ringside and put it over the fire. Then they were able to get in. Like they said on Pro Wrestling Talk Radio last week (which you can listen to on blogtalkradio by the way) what's the point of ever having a ring of fire match again because it didn't do it's job the first time.

I also thought that it wasn't a very good debut in the ring for Bray Wyatt. In theory it should have worked great; the fire summerslam, him facing Kane, but the match itself wasn't all that good. Kane was on offence most of time and I would've much rather had that the other way; I mean it's Bray Wyatt's debut let us see some of what he can do on offence. He did have some glimpses of interesting moves in it; one time he was Irish whipped into the corner and then he ran Kane down with a clothesline. From what we saw of him he seemed good in the ring but the match really could have benefited from having more of Bray on offence.

From what I saw of him I did like him in the ring; he seems to have that uniqueness kind of like Dean Ambrose has. Just the way he executes moves, it's just different than normal and I really like when wrestlers do that.

The match begins to end when Luke Harper and Rowens or whatever their names are get into the ring and attack Kane. The crowd was chanting for Undertaker and I actually started to wonder if he was gonna come out because it was a three on one attack on Kane. Then Bray delivers his finisher to Kane and wins the match.

I really wish that wwe would have done a better job of making Bray Wyatt look good in the match especially since it was his debut. He got beat up the whole match by Kane and then the only way he was able to win was because his goons found a way to get in the ring. Instead of the match being about Harper and Rowen having to find a way into the ring, I wish that it would have been about Bray Wyatt having to find a way to defeat Kane.

After the match though it got really good. The Wyatts took out Kane with the steel steps kind of like when they first debuted and then they dragged him away. I really liked that part; it just seemed cool and mysterious. We keep getting glimpses of greatness with the Wyatts and I'm becoming a big fan of them but I do wish that wwe would handle them better.

Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow

This was a very entertaining match; we had lot's of good action and in the end Cody Rhodes won by delivering the beautiful disaster kick and then countering into the crossrhodes. They also had another match on raw the following night and Cody won that one as well.

I think what they're doing here is setting up for Rhodes to say ok, I've beaten Sandow twice in a row; I should get to challenge for the MITB briefcase. Then since MITB is kind of a championship they can have a match for it at night of champions next month. Hopefully a ladder match.

That does make sense but it just makes me nervous seeing Damien Sandow lose this much because we all know that wwe has a history of turning their money in the bank briefcase holders into jobbers. I think though that if Sandow gets the win in the end, when it's all said and done he'll come out looking ok. Then hopefully wwe will have another storyline to put him in because if they can keep him in good feuds and winning the majority of his matches then he'll be doing better than most of the other briefcase holders.

Overall when I look at these two I see more potential with Damien Sandow than I do with Cody Rhodes. Don't get me wrong Rhodes has tons of talent and with that character that he had in 2011 and and the first half 2012 he was on the same level as Sandow but so far I'm not too sure about this face character. It just seems kind of generic but it's still early into it so hopefully he'll be able to break into his own with the character.

As most of you may know I'm very high on Sandow:  he's my second favorite in wwe and I see tons of potential with him. He has ability like Daniel Bryan does to make any character work. For some people with that character it would come off as silly like fandango's gimmick but Sandow embraces the character and plays it perfectly. I really hope that they handle him properly because I see tons of great things in Damien Sandow's future.

Brie Bella vs Natalia

I didn't watch this match because frankly I just didn't care to. If I want to see something good from the divas division then I'll go back and and re watch that awesome AJ Lee promo from raw this week.

WHC: Alberto Del Rio vs Christian

This was a great match; I really wish that it would've had more storyline though going into it because that would've made it seem more important. The match itself though was excellent and these two actually had another match that I really really liked, maybe even one my favorite ones of all time in a ladder match two years ago at Extreme Rules. Even though this one was very good one of the main reasons that I liked that one better was because it had a ton storyline. It was Christian's big shot to finally get the WHC and everybody wanted him to win right after his best friend Edge had just retired but Del Rio wanted to get the title himself and it just worked really well.

This match though just felt like hey it's two guys that want the world title now they're going to have a match, no big storyline and no emotion in it. Even though it suffered from that it was still very enjoyably and I'm looking forward to seeing more matches between these two guys.

On a side note they did actually have a rematch on smackdown last week and I actually watch the show all the way through for the first time in weeks. I would recommend that you watch smackdown if your not already because even though a good portion of it is just rematches from raw they do have some pretty cool stuff like the steel cage match between Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett last week.

Dolph Ziggler/ Katelyn vs Big E/AJ

I haven't seen this match yet because I watched Summerslam the night after it aired and I had to hurry through it because I think raw was about to come on. It's been about a week and a half now though since it aired and I still haven't seen it. That tells you about how much I cared about the match.

I will try to see it at some point though because I actually do WANT to care about these wrestlers Ziggler, Big E, and AJ, Katelyn not as much but I do want to be a fan of the first three but this match just didn't seem important to me. Ziggler's face character just isn't working for me and even though I'm a big AJ fan we've seen her and Katelyn wrestle many times before so that was nothing new. Also mixed tag team matches don't seem important. It's probably because of how unimportant the divas division is right now; everyone except AJ of course. Like I said before Katelyn and AJ have had many matches before so I wasn't really interested in that and we've also seen Dolph Ziggler vs Big E before too.

Like I said in my summerslam preview I'm guessing that the reason  they didn't do Ziggler vs Big E in a separate match was probably because they didn't want either of them to lose since they're both on new and shacking ground. Ziggler's still breaking into his face character and so far it's not going to well. Big E is also on shaky ground because he's breaking into being a singles wrestler and since wwe doesn't have a midcard I'm not sure how that's going to go. Still though I would have rather had a singles match between them because I think that would've seemed more important. Just do a finish like they did in their rematch on raw where AJ interfered so that Big E could win the match.

Also that's another thing; I'm getting very tired of wwe giving away ppv matches on raw right before the ppv. They did that with tons of the summerslam matches and they've already started doing it with Night of Champions matches. It makes you not care about the ppv match because you know that unless it's the wwe title match they're probably going to have it again before and after the ppv.

No DQ Match: Brock Lesner vs CM Punk

As we all know the feud going into this match has been nothing short of amazing. Everything has come together nearly perfectly and it's one of the best feuds we've had in years. I didn't know what to expect in the match though because the other few matches that Brock Lesner's been in since coming back to the wwe haven't really worked out as good as they should have. I didn't like the Triple H match last year at summerslam and I'm guessing that's one of the reason that this match didn't go on last just in case it failed like the one last year. The WM one I thought was the best out of the HHH and Lesner's trilogy and then the Extreme Rules one I wasn't too fond of. Brock's match with John Cena at Extreme Rules last year wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't as good as this. This match really felt like what we needed to get with Brock Lesner, this huge name and wwe's best heel character when  Paul Heyman is at his side. We really needed a huge success match and that's what we got.

The match started off hot and never really slowed down. At certain point's I was thinking that Punk was going to win and I was just hoping that Brock didn't tap out. I was kind of thinking that with how brutal the match was CM Punk might not be able to survive another match so maybe it'd just be a one and done thing. But that wasn't to be because Brock Lesner won after CM Punk got himself somewhat preoccupied with Paul Heyman. This match told a great story as did the feud and it was action packed; so far unless wwe has like a 10 star match sometime before the year's over this match will be the 2013 match of the year. Heck I'll even go farther than that this was probably one of my favorite of all time. Everything came together right with Brock  playing this huge monster in CM Punk's way and with Paul Heyman at Lesner's side those two combined are the best heels in the world. Amazing stuff if you have not seen it I definitely recommend that you check it out, I'm sure it's on youtube somewhere. Also I take my hat off so to speak to wwe for delivering this this awesome content, great stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this article; in my next one which will be out in the coming days I'll be talking about the Daniel Bryan vs John Cena match at Summerslam and the WWE title picture as well so stay tuned.

Pro Wrestling Review: Summerslam 2013 Preview

What's up everybody; first off I'd like to apologize for not having a raw review this week. I've been very busy lately but I do have my summerslam preview right here so let's get into it.

Kickoff Show U.S. Title: Dean Ambrose vs RVD

I'd rather have the tag team titles or divas match on the pre show rather than this match. This is a big match in my opinion and I don't think it's a very good idea to give it away for free. They do have Shawn Michaels on the panel for it so maybe they're hoping a lot of people will watch it.

The build up though hasn't been good at all; Rob Van Dam won the battle royal on raw but he hasn't had any involvement with the shield at all. I wish they would have had at least somewhat of a feud between Ambrose and RVD but maybe since it's on the kickoff show they didn't care enough about it to do any feud.

I was originally think that it was going to be Mark and Usos vs The Shield but they've had that match so many times on free tv that I guess they figured they should do something else for the ppv. I'm not really sure who's gonna win the match though; they haven't really done anything with Dean Ambrose as champion so I could see him losing it. Rob Van Dam though definitely doesn't need the title at all but maybe if he had he could help bring up some of the prestige of championship. Even he does manage bring up the pretige of the title, that isn't going to fix it. The main problem with the midcard is that wwe doesn't care enough about it to make it good like it used to be. I'm going to talking more about that in a different article soon.

The match should be good though and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Wwe TT Title: Seth Rollins/Romien Reigns vs Mark Henry/Big Show

I'm not sure if this match is even going to happen because I don't think it's on the match card. On raw though the shield said something about their next challengers to the tag team championships and it looks like the Big Show and Mark Henry are going to be the challengers. I really wish that Big Show would have returned a few weeks ago when he was scheduled to; I heard that it was because they didn't think he had fully recovered from an injury had heeled all the way or something like that. Even if he wasn't wrestling I wish that he would've been on tv to build up the feud. I heard that they did give away the match on smackdown doesn't surprise me with the way they've been giving away summerslam matches for free recently.

If this match does happen then I think Big Show and Mark Henry do have a chance of winning it. I have a feeling that the shield is going to lose at least one championship at summerslam; hopefully not both championships though because that might make them look bad.

I really wish that they Mark Henry would be in the main event scene instead of the tag team division. I think he could have done a ton more as a main event heel but as a face I don't know.

This match could have benefited from a lot more build up and it's too bad that both of Shield's match didn't have any of it.

Dolph Ziggler/Katelyn vs Big E Langston/AJ

I would rather have this be two separate matches instead of just one tied together. I would do AJ vs Natalia though because I think everybodys tired of seeing of AJ vs Katelyn. One of the reasons that this is a tag team match is probably because both Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston can't really afford to take a loss. Ziggler still new to his face character and so far it's not looking to promising and a loss wouldn't do him any good. Big E is just breaking out onto his own a loss for him would be bad too. This way though they have interference by one AJ and Katelyn and maybe even have one them take the fall.

I'm not sure which team is gonna win though. I'm gonna go with AJ and Big E just because I'm guessing that they're going want to keep the feud going since both Big E and Ziggler don't really have anything else to do.

Damien Sandow vs Cody Rhodes

This match has had a very good feud especially on Damien Sandow's part: Cody Rhodes not so much but it has been very entertaining. The match should be good and I'm not really sure who is gonna win; I guess I'm gonna go with Rhodes just because then they can put the briefcase on the line at night of champions and have Sandow win.

Kane vs Bray Wyatt (Ring of Fire Match)

This match I'm looking forward to seeing; I think it will be Bray Wyatt's first time in the ring since he debuted so I want to see how he does. Also the fact it's going to be a ring of fire match makes it sound cool and fits these two perfectly. The ring of fire is supposed to be for keeping the competitors inside the ring and to not let anybody else interfere. That kind of worries me though because I think this I think this match could benifit from going outside of the ring.

I'm expecting Bray Wyatt to win the match and then further his feud with Kane. The more that I think about this match the I get exited about it because it's not something you see everyday.

WHC: Alberto Del Rio vs Christian

This should be a pretty good match but the build up to has been terrible. I'd like to see Christian win but with a build up like this I don't know if it would mean a whole lot. I'm gonna go with Del Rio and then maybe Christian can get the title down the line.

CM Punk vs Brock Lesner

This match on the hand has had an amazing build; Probably the best feud of the year. We've had tons of great segments between CM Punk, Paul Heyman and Brock Lesner. Lesner had even had some very segments on the mic which is kind of surprising. When he told Paul Heyman to say something stupid that was great then that video taped promo that he cut on CM punk that was very good.

This feud definitely been one the main highlights of wrestling this summer and I'm really looking forward to the payoff. I don't think the match has any special stimulation though which is kind of surprising. Hopefully they don't keep it in the ring, I'd like to see them go all over the place.

Up until raw raw this week I wasn't really sure who was going to win. On raw we had CM Punk have his first successful run in which Brock Lesner. I liked the way that they did that by the way; it didn't make Brock look bad but it gave Punk some more credibility heading into the match.

I see Lesner winning it at summerslam; it makes the most logical sense Punk got the upperhand the on raw before the event for one and also Brock winning makes look strong and it sets a rematch between them. I'm guessing the rematch will be at either Survivor Series or Wrestlemania. The only reason that I say Survivor Series is because might want to do something else with CM Punk at Wrestlemania 30 such as has having him possibly face Stone Cold.

The match should be very good and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it.

WWE Title: John Cena vs Daniel Bryan

This match's build up has been ok for me. I really liked it when they were doing the segments with Vince McMahon and Daniel Bryan; making Bryan look like an underdog and building him up for the big win. These last two weeks though I haven't really liked as much; they've been having Bryan saying that he's a wrestler and John Cena is a superstar. One that argument has been used many times before especially been by CM Punk and it's starting to get old. Two it felt like they were just doing that so that Cena could shoot down Bryan's promos.

I would have much rather had them keep had them going with storyline of Bryan fighting way his up through Vince McMahon and John Cena to become a big star rather than that wrestler vs Superstar thing. I think what they were trying to do was to get an actual feud started between Bryan and Cena but in a case like this I don't really think you need a huge one. I think what they were doing before was fine and I just didn't like how the feud went at the end. I will say one thing though I really liked the way Bryan delivered his promos; I really like how intense he is on the mic.

As for who I think will win this match...Daniel Bryan. I think this is wwe's opportunity to make a new top star and with wwe's midcard being in a wreck right now that doesn't happen very often. I hope that they let John Cena take the loss because I think it will do a ton for Bryan. I'd really like to see Bryan make Cena tap out but I kind of doubt that that will happen. Even if Cena doesn't tap out a win for Bryan over John Cena could catapolt him to huge stardom.

Also why wouldn't wwe want to take advantage of Daniel Bryan by giving him the big win over Cena. John Cena winning won't do anything for Cena but Bryan winning can make them a new top star so why not give him the win.

The elifent in the room for this match though is Randy Orton and his MITB briefase. I would definitely be ok with him cashing after Bryan wins the title. As long as Bryan wins his match with Cena I'll be ok with it and I think that if Bryan is again chasing the title it might be a little bit more entertaining and he can always win it back down the line.

Randy Orton cashing in does seem very obvious...almost too obvious. One possibility that I've been thinking about recently is Bryan wins the title, Orton tries to cash in but Bryan beats him. Then there would be some tension between the two and Orton could get angry that he lost he could turn heel. That might make Orton look a little bit bad but it would do a lot for Daniel Bryan having him beat both Cena and Orton for the wwe championship in the same night. If they do it right I think that it would be a very entertaining feud and it would help people see that wwe is serious about Daniel Bryan.

Either way it should be very entertaining I just hope that Daniel Bryan wins. I'm going in full support of him tonight and I already am sporting my Yes Yes Yes shirt.

The match has the potential to be very good. We all know that CM Punk and John Cena have had some 5 star matches together and Since Bryan and Punk are somewhat similar in ring I'm hopeful that it could be a very good match.

Pro Wrestling Review: Raw Review 8/5/13

                                          Photos via Wwe.com

Welcome back to Pro Wrestling Review, this is going to be the raw review edition for August 5, 2013.

The show starts out with Stephanie McMahon in the ring, she talks about the corporate makeover that Daniel Bryan recently had. They show a video package of the corporate makeover and then Bryan comes out with slicked back hair and a suit. He cuts a promo and then Vince McMahon comes out and says that there's one more thing Bryan must do to gain his support, shave his beard. They bring out a barber chair and then Vince says that Wade Barrett will be the barber. Bryan ends up attacking Barrett before he can cut off his beard and Bryan actually shaves off some of Barrett's beard. I posted on twitter that unfortunately the next time we see Wade Barrett his beard will have probably be grown back. Wade could really be one of their top heels and it's a shame that they're not using him.

Then Bryan says that he's not going to change for Vince and he rips off his shirt and tie to reveal his new t shirt instead of the champ is here The Beard is Here. Daniel Bryan always has the best t shirts.

I really enjoyed this segment, I was a little skeptical at first but like I said in my raw review last week I never count out Daniel Bryan; he's the best at making characters and storylines that would usually come off dumb must see tv. I've liked this feud so far and there's a lot of different ways the match could go at summerslam. It has me looking forward to the match.

There was a match a between Alberto Del Rio and Rob Van Dam. Ricardo Rodriguez who returned on the show ended up accidentally costing Del Rio the match. Afterwords Del Rio viciously attacked Ricardo and end up putting him behind the steel steps and then drop kicking them. They did a good job with the attack on Ricardo and that should hopefully get some heat on Del Rio. I'm not sure if splitting them up is a good idea though, Ricardo has been a big part of Del Rio's character ever since he debuted and I'm not sure what Ricardo will now. They need to find someone to put him with but I'm not sure who.

Also on smackdown Christian won a triple threat match between RVD and Randy Orton to become the number 1 contender to the world heavyweight championship at Summerslam. I've been saying for a very long time that I think Christian should be in the whc picture and I'm glad that he's in the match. The feud though hasn't been going too well, I hope they really step it up because they didn't do anything with it on raw.

They have two more Smackdowns and one more raw left before Summerslam so hopefully they can get an actual feud going between them.

After that there is a segment between Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes. Rhodes comes out and has Sandow's recovered briefcase, Sandow comes down to the ring to get it and there's mall brawl. Cody gives the briefcase back but keeps contract that's inside of it. This was an ok segment, and it looks like the match at Summerslam is going to be for the MITB briefcase. I hope it's in a ladder match.

Overall I've enjoyed this feud so far and Damien Sandow has been amazing as usual. Cody Rhodes on the other hand, not so much. Since he turned face we haven't heard hardly anything from him the mic. It's been holding the feud down. Cody who is supposed to be a person that has been betrayed but instead he looks like a jerk. He's going around steeling Damien Sandow's briefcase and he doesn't really look a good guy. Promos from him would help to explain the storyline storyline a lot.

Hopefully they figure out Cody's character soon or else I'm afraid that after this feud he'll slide down the card. I was waiting to make up mind about him as a face but now I have; I'm not a big fan of it. I think there was a whole lot more that they could have done with him as a heel. This last year he hasn't very good but in 2011 and early 2012 he great. He had a very unique and entertaining heel character. Rhodes could have been a main event heel with that character but with his current face one I can't say the same thing.

We also had a match between Mark Henry and Ryback; the big wrestlemania rematch! The match only went on for a little while and then Ryback intentionally got counted out. This was terrible and like I've been saying every week, I'm done with Ryback.

Next we had a tag team match between Tons of Funk and the Wyatt families Eric Rowen and Luke Harper. The match was pretty short but not bad while it lasted. The Wyatts got the win and then layed out Tons of Funk. Bray Wyatt got on the mic and said that Kane needs follow the buzzards. Then Kane got on the screen and asked how someone could follow the buzzards when they tear off buzzard's wings for fun. I found that humerus in a disturbing sort of way.

Kane cuts a promo and talks about a ring of fire, so it looks like their match at Summerslam might be an inferno match. I'm not really sure how they're going to do that in the pg format though. I we'll just have to wait and see.

Some other things that we had on the show was Layla vs Katelyn; AJ ends up costing Katelyn the match. So now it looks like AJ and Layla have an alliance. Then there was also Christian vs Heath Slater; this wasn't a bad match but I wish that Christian would have been involved in something to build up his feud with Alberto Del Rio rather than a low profile match like this.

After that we had CM Punk vs Curtis Axel; throughout the whole match and even before it started CM Punk kept trying to get his hands on Paul Heyman. The match was pretty good and it ended when Punk finally did get his hands on Heyman and the referee ended the match in a no contest.

Then Brock Lesner comes out! He and Punk have an awesome brawl and at one point Punk has the upper hand and he goes over to get Paul Heyman. Brock gets up though and F5s him. Then Brock repeatedly beats Punk with a steel chair after Heyman tells Brock to "hurt him".

This was a great segment; I really like how it illustrated the feud. CM Punk is a conflicted person that has been betrayed by his best friend; Heyman is a backstabbing heel that has all these people mainly Lesner to defend him and hurt CM Punk. I've thoroughly enjoyed this feud and unless something amazing comes along soon I'd say that this is hands down the feud of the year. They've done an amazing job illustrating the story and it's been very fun to watch.

Some other stuff that we had on the show was Fandango vs the returning Kofi Kingston. I'm glad to see Kofi back and hopefully wwe has some decent stuff for him to do.

Then there was a match between the Real Americans Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro vs The Usos. This was a very good match with the Real Americans picking up the win. Hopefully wwe has something big in mind for both of these teams to do because they both have lot's of talent. Also hopefully Antonio Cesaro's amazing match with Daniel Bryan a few weeks ago has helped some people in the back get behind him.

Then there was also Dolph Ziggler vs Big E Langston for the second time. This match I liked better than the one that they had last week and it ended when Katelyn tried to stop AJ from interfering but instead she ended up costing Dolph the match accidentally. I've heard rumors that there might be a mixed tag team match between Ziggler and Katelyn vs AJ and Big E. I'd rather just see the two separate matches at summerslam but since they've given away both matches multiple times on free tv that probably won't happen.

Also on the show John Cena cut a rebuttal promo to Daniel Bryan's earlier one, then Randy Orton came out and said that it doesn't matter who wins at Summerslam because he'll be champion soon after he cashes in. The Shield then came and surrounded the ring. Before they could attack though Daniel Bryan came out to join forces with Cena and Orton. Brad Maddox comes out and announces that the main event will be Orton, Cena, and Bryan vs the Shield.

Main Event: Randy Orton, John Cena, and Daniel Bryan vs The Shield

I wish that they would have announced this match last week because it would've given people a reason to watch this week's raw. The match was solid while it lasted and it ends when Bryan has Seth Rollins in the Yes lock and the other Shield members come in and break it up. It ends in a no contest and afterwords Randy Orton RKOs Bryan. Next he and Cena fight off the shield and then when Cena has his back turned to him, Orton RKOs Cena. Then Orton teases a cash in but doesn't end up doing it because the Shield comes back out and they take out Bryan and Cena in the ring. The show ends with The Shield standing tall over the two people that will be fighting for Wwe championship at Summerslam with Randy Orton standing by watching it happen.

It looks like this is the beginning of a heel turn for Randy Orton; I wouldn't say that he's turned full fledged heel just yet but he took some steps to getting there. I'm very interested to see what happens with Orton and I like having the possibility of him possibly cashing in at summerslam and also Vince McMahon maybe getting involved and a confrontation with Vince and Triple H. It all has me very exited for Summerslam.

Also I'm glad that they had the Shield in a match with three main event guys in the main event. I think wwe has taken notice that having them working with people like the Usos is dragging them down the card. I wish that they would've built up the Shield vs Mark Henry and Usos match more though because they didn't do that at all. I heard that they're giving away that match again on Wwe Main Event so I hope they're planning on having the match at Summerslam too because if not I don't know what the Shield is going to do at the ppv, not to mention Mark Henry as well.

Overall I really enjoyed this show, and it helped me want to buy Summerslam more. I do wish that they would stop giving away some of these other matches for free when they're probably going to be on the card. Over all I would give this show a good grade.

Pro Wrestling Review: Raw Review 7/29/13

What up everybody this is going to be my raw review for July 29, 2013

The show starts out with a segment between Vince McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Vince tells Bryan that John Cena is lying to him and that Cena thinks Bryan is just an easy opponent to beat. He also talks about how Bryan is troll and he says that he doesn't want Cena or Bryan to be the champion and he hopes that at Summerslam they will spontaneously com-bust. I really liked this segment, it was somewhat humerus and Vince did a good job of establishing Bryan as the underdog and not being big enough. I was hoping that they would they would do that with the feud, make Bryan seem too small and that he's fighting against all the odds. Next Bryan says that it doesn't matter what Vince thinks, it only matters what the fans think, and he says that they wan't him to be wwe champion. It ends with Bryan and the fans chanting Yes Yes Yes.

Like I said before a very good opening segment, the one thing I didn't get though was Vince said that Bryan doesn't have ruthless aggression, and I posted on twitter ....umm have you ever seen him wrestle? One of the reasons that I'm such a big Daniel Bryan is fan is because I really like when he gets on fire in matches and he is going all over the place super fast, kicking people and jumping outside of the ring onto them. I would call that ruthless aggression. I think what they're setting up for is Randy Orton who hasn't been on raw for a few weeks to cash on Bryan at Summerslam. I'm going to be talking about that more in a  different article soon about Daniel Bryan and things that could happen at summerslam.

Since we're on the topic of Daniel Bryan later in night there was segment with Triple H and Vince. Vince says that he just wants someone to beat John Cena someone like Triple H except 20 or 23 years younger. This made Tripe H mad but before he could say anything Stephanie came in and said that she thinks they should give Daniel Bryon a corporate makeover. Then Vince says good luck with that and walks away. Usually I don't like the McMahon segments these they've been having but this one was pretty funny. The way that Vince said good luck with that and the 23 years younger thing I thought was entertaining. As for Stephanie's big idea, it has me nervous but I think that if they do the right way it could be funny and it could be good for the storyline. Also I've learned never to count out Daniel Bryan because he's made some of the strangest gimmicks and storylines work perfectly. We'll just have to see what a corporate makeover entails next week.

Most of middle part of the show was similar to last week, not anything too special, it was just ok. We had two divas matches acually for the first time since...who knows but it was probably just to promote the Total Divas show. There was Brie Bella vs Natalia, I actually didn't watch this match because I was watching a different movie that I cared a lot more about than the match. It looks like the Bellas and Natalia are going to start feuding, maybe Natalia will find a partner and they'll have a tag team match at Summerslam, probably on the pre show.

Then we also had AJ vs Katelyn, when I heard that we were having this match again I wasn't very exited, I didn't mind the feud and the matches before but I'm done with it now and I hope that it doesn't lead to another match Summerslam. I would rather they do Katelyn vs the Bellas and then have AJ and Natalia have a match at Summerslam. I think that would be a much better match that a fourth AJ and Katelyn one.

Then Dolph Ziggler came out and congratulated AJ on her loss and said that he wants a match with Big E. This match was ok but nothing super special. It ended when AJ gets in the ring and starts attacking Dolph and pulling out his hair. Big E is mad at AJ for disqualifying him but then Ziggler gets back in the ring hits the zig zag on Big E. They been teasing a break up between AJ and Big E for a little while now but they've also been teasing  them becoming a couple so I have no idea what they're going to do with them. I would keep them together because I think it benefits AJ to have a bodyguard and I bet Big E would just go down the card if they split up.

Another match we had was Rob Van Dam vs Fandango, this was ok. It ends with Fandango leaving and getting counted out. Then he got on the mic and said his name. It looks like they might be setting up a summerslam match but I'm really over Fandango at this point so I'd much rather have RVD face Wade Barrett.

Speaking of Wade Barrett he had a match against Cody Rhodes, this was an ok match with Cody winning. They also showed a video package of what happened on smackdown with Cody Rhodes throwing Damien Sandow's briefcase into the gulf of Mexico.

Then Damien comes out and yells at Cody Rhodes for throwing his briefcase into the water and he says that he has people searching for right now. He also said that for months he went around the world enlightening people and all  Cody Rhodes did was grow a mustache. He also said something about Cody and his family being a bunch of circus freaks.

Damien Sandow is just amazing, he's someone like Daniel Bryan that can make any gimmick work. Most people in his gimmick would have come across as silly and dumb but he plays his character to a t and he's one of my favorites in wwe. Whenever he holds a mic it's super entertaining and I can't wait for him to be world champion.

The one thing that this feud is missing though is a face promo from Cody Rhodes. The announcers said that on smackdown that Cody will explain himself so then maybe we can get a feel for if his face character will actually work. I'm guessing they'll have Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow maybe with MITB contract on the line. Hopefully in a ladder match.

Another match on raw was Christian vs Alberto Del Rio. This was a very good match with Del Rio getting the win with the killswitch. I think Christian is going to face Del Rio at summerslam that way Del Rio can get revenge for his loss.

Another match was Mark Henry and the Usos vs The Shield, The Shield ends up winning but after the match Henry single handedly takes out all of the Shield. This was a very enjoyable match but it did leave the Shield looking a little bit weak.

One thing about the middle part of raw though was that they gave away what will probably be almost their whole summerslam card for free. Henry and the Usos vs The Shield, RVD vs Fandango, Christian vs Del Rio, AJ vs Katelyn, and Ziggler vs Big E Langston. I could see maybe doing that with one or two matches but that's like 70% of the card, can't they think of a better way to build feuds. Also if they are going to do that the matches darn well better really good to make people want to buy them again and the only match was good enough was Christian vs Del Rio and maybe Mark Henry and the Usos vs The Shield. If people have already seen the matches then why would they want to buy summerslam, especially if most of the matches weren't all that good.

We also had a match between Curtis Axel and R-Truth, the crowd was chanting for CM Punk and that's what they ended up getting. Punk came out and attacked Axel and then tried to make good on his promise of getting Paul Heyman. He got his hands on Heyman a little bit but Axel was able to fight him off long enough for Heyman get away. This was an entertaining segment but it wasn't as good as the stuff that we've been getting recently from Punk and Heyman. In a feud that goes on for two months though I guess you can't have a super news worthy segment each week and this one wasn't bad it just wasn't as good as some of the stuff we've being seeing lately.

Daniel Bryan vs Kane

This wasn't too bad of a match, it was no Daniel Bryan vs Antonio Cesaro but it was still enjoyable. Bryan wins the match with a roll up and afterword Kane chokeslames him. After that the Wyatt family came out and layed out Kane. So it looks like we'll probably be getting either Kane vs Bray Wyatt or Kane and two other people vs whole Wyatt family at summerslam.

John Cena vs Ryback (Tables Match)

This was a decent match but there was some strange things going on in it like when Cena and Ryback were both holding steel steps and they had kind of a stand off and then they threw the stairs at each other. That was a little strange but still a decent match. In the end Cena ends up winning by throwing Ryback through a table.

The thing that I didn't like about this match was Ryback, his character had been so jacked around these last few months that when he's in an important match it's hard to take it seriously. One week he's Cryback and the next week he's supposed to be some kind of bully, they even had to do a segment backstage where he throws some random guy through a table to try to build him up. The announcers kept talking about how he's a bully and how dangerous he was but am I really supposed to buy that after his feud with Chris Jericho? Ryback's character should be similar to Mark Henry's heel character where he's just this monster that destroys everything in his path but when you compare the two, Mark Henry when he was heel was on a completely different level, a completely different planet compared to Ryback.

I think the original plan was for Big Show to come out last week instead of Ryback but for whatever reason they didn't do that and they picked Ryback instead. It's probably a good thing though because than Big Show would have lost one of first matches since coming back. Now Ryback has another loss and I think he needs to just leave for a while and then come back as a face or a repackaged heel.

After Cena won Daniel Bryan came out and it looked like he going to give the wwe championship to Cena but he pulled it away, then Cena grabbed it from him and said that he has to earn it first. I really like this feud between Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Vince McMahon so far. Vince doesn't want Bryan to become champion because he doesn't fit the mold of what a typical top star usually is and there's also some tension between Cena and Bryan as well.

Overall this was an ok episode of raw but nothing all that special. I wish that they would have announced at least one match for next week so that people would really have a reason to tune in, the only reason they announced the two for this week was probably just because the episode was taped last week.

Pro Wrestling Review: Raw 7/22/13 and the #Ask Dixie Massacre

Hello everyone today I want to talk about last weeks Raw 7/22/13 and a little bit about TNA and the Ask Dixie thing as well.

As we all know Tna has been releasing a lot people lately so they decided to do and Q and A thing on twitter under the hashtag #AskDixie, well this turned out to be a disaster. A lot of the people on twitter have the mindset of most IWC fans and many IWC fans aren't too fond of Dixie Carter. They massacred her and tna, I mean seriously they didn't hold anything back. It made me feel sorry for Dixie Carter and tna but as someone who isn't involved in tna at it was also hilarious. I retweeted a link to some of the funniest ones but if you just type in the hashtage AskDixie on twitter you'll see that they're all hilarious.

I think the point of this was so that Dixie Carter could assure everyone that tna was doing fine and that the recent releases didn't mean that tna was falling apart but it didn't work. It just made tna look worse. It was still very entertaining to read all of them though.

Now on to wwe, recently wwe has been putting on some very good episodes of raw. Last summer it was the opposite and after Extreme Rules the product went way down and I think saying that John Cena vs John Larinitus was the main event of a ppv says enough. Like I said though this year after wrestlemania the product went down a little but it's now come way up during the summer and most all of episodes after Payback have been good.

The show starts off with the contract signing between John Cena and Daniel Bryan, this was probably one of the first wwe contract signings not have a fight break out. The segment ok and did a good job establishing Daniel Bryan as the underdog going into summerslam. I'll talk more about that feud though when we get to the main event.

Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio

I actually didn't see this match but I heard it was very good. I'll have to find it on the internet sometime and watch.

Throughout the middle portion of the episode we had some ok stuff and then some honestly absurd stuff.

There was a match between Titus O'Neil and Christian and also a match between Dolph Ziggler and Darren Young. Both matches were ok but nothing too special. After Ziggler's match Big E came down to attack him but being quick Ziggler was able avoid the attack. I really hope that they give Christian something to do for summerslam, I'd love to see him challenge for a world title at some point but I'd also be ok with just a feud with someone. I hope that they do something with him and stop having him just floating around. One thing I'd that I'd like to see is maybe Christian vs RVD or Christian vs Wade Barrett.

I've been saying for a while that the Prime Time Players need to turn face. I'm tired of seeing them jobbing to people on raw, I'd like to see them get somewhat of a push. Even if they do stay heels give them enough of a push that they can feud with the Usos.

Another that match we had was Rob Van Dam vs Wade Barrett, I really enjoyed this match while it lasted and I'd love to see face off at summerslam. It's really sad to see Wade Barrett doing absolutely nothing right now, he was great in the nexus and on his own and I think that he could be a great top heel. They should at least put him in the smackdown main event. I hope they give him a feud for summerslam and like I said before I wouldn't mind seeing it be against RVD or Christian.

Now is when it got absurd

This next part was one of my favorite parts of show for the same reason that you like watching a movie because you can laugh at how dumb it is. A lot of fans on the internet always joke about how Micheal Cole has never shut up about the wwe app since it came out. Tonight though he took that to a completely different level, he explained to us indepthly how to download the app. There was graphics on the screen of each step of the way to download it. He goes through every step too, first you go to app store on your device, then you type in wwe app. Now you click on the thing that says wwe app, next you click download you type in the password and it will download directly to your device! Thank you Micheal Cole I don't know what I would do without you.

Since we're on the subject of absurd, we had a promo from Ryback, yup that definitely meets the criteria. He says something about not liking small people and being a bully, can we please get Ryback a manager? Seriously. I'm really getting tired of Ryback, they've pretty much made him a joke. He came out of the feud with John Cena not looking very good like most do which I talked about more in the John Cena destroying top heels article. Then they put him in a feud with Chris Jericho and had him stop matches because he couldn't continue. In that feud with Jericho they seriously destroyed his character and I don't know if they're mad at him backstage or what because that had to deliberate. It's not like it helped the feud any because it didn't help Jericho and no one really cared about the match at MITB.

So Ryback is basically a joke now but later in the show he was in a main event segment. So one week he has to stop matches because his knee hurts and the next week he's supposed to be a big monster. I mean am I really supposed to think of him as a serious threat to anyone, no I'm not buying this. Then to top it all off he still doesn't have a manager, the only heel promo that I ever really liked from him was the first one he ever cut and that was pre recorded.

At this point either put him someone like Paul Heyman and try to salvage his character or have him leave and come back as back as a face.

Next we had Miz TV with the cast of total divas, I'm not even going talk about this segment because anybody who saw it knows that it was a disaster, as for that total divas after watching that clip, that show looks completely scripted and I after the clip and that terrible segment I aint watching it.

How about instead of telling us that we should watch it, having dumb segments like that and telling us that we should care about a show with people who most of them are only on tv about twice a month doing pointless things how about in instead that they get a real divas division. Hire some divas that can actually wrestle so that Aj can have some competition and SHOW us that we should care about the people in the show.

Wwe having bad divisions always comes back to hurt them in the end, it did with the tag team division when the shield who were on fire started a tag team feud and it pulled them down the card because no one cared about the tag teams because they hadn't been built up at all. Same with the divas division, wwe wants us to care about them enough to watch a show all about them but I doubt many people will because wwe's given us no reason to care about them for years. This segment was supposed to make me me want to watch total divas but it had the opposite effect on me.

This is where the show got good.

CM Punk and Paul Heyman Segment

This was a very very good segment, first CM Punk came out and cut a good promo about how he's not afraid of Brock Lesner, then Paul Heyman got on the titan tron and he and Punk cut promos back and forth. They called the match the Beast vs the Best but than Paul Heyman said that the Beast is the Best. I really loved this segment, Punk and Heyman are definitely two of the top mic workers in the world and they showed why.

I was thinking to myself that they wouldn't be able to top the segment from last week with promos from Punk and Heyman and then the brawl between Punk and Lesner but I underestimated them. I'm really not sure which segment I liked better and that just goes to show the talent of Punk and Heyman.

I've really been liking this feud between Brock, Punk, and Heyman, I really like how they  took it slow and didn't rush into it. The month between Payback and MITB was basically just build up for the actual feud with them teasing a break up between Punk and Heyman and then who could forget the epic attack on CM Punk the night after Payback by Brock Lesner. Then at money in the bank in an epic moment Heyman turned on Punk completely. This has so far been my favorite feud of summer, maybe even the whole year and I can't wait to see what they do with next.

Main Event Daniel Bryon Gauntlet match (Jack Swagger, Antonio Cesaro, and Ryback)

This was truly an awesome main event. Sometimes in gauntlet matches the matches are just quick and not very good but Daniel Bryon had some great matches, especially with Antonio Cesaro. I'd love to see these two have another match over the wwe championship at some point.

The first person was Jack Swagger, that was a pretty short match, Antonio Cesaro was the second and like I said before that was awesome, and then the third person was Ryback. A lot of people including me were expecting it to be the Big Show but for some reason it wasn't. The match was actually pretty good, most the best matches that Ryback's had have been against Daniel Bryan. It ends with Ryback throwing Bryan through a table outside of the ring and thus getting disqualified. Then Ryback goes to inflict more damage but John Cena comes out, fights off Ryback, and challenges him to a tables match.

It then show Brad Maddox and Vince backstage and they announce Cena and Ryback's match for the next week. Vince also says that says that next week Bryan needs a chance to prove himself and I was thinking umm after these matches how much more proving does he have to do? Vince though announces Daniel Bryan vs Kane for the next week and the show goes off air with Bryan in the ring and the crowd chanting for him.

The second half of this show was very very good and hopefully that awesome performance did a lot to convince people to get behind Daniel Bryan. Also it probably did a lot of good for Antonio Cesaro as well. Bryan really showed why he deserves the wwe championship and let me just say good job to to Daniel Bryan because that performance, he was awesome, you can always rely on him to put on a good match every week and entertain you.

The Punk and Heyman segment was great was well and I'm really enjoying that feud. Even though the middle portion of the show didn't have anything extremely good the second half of the show was able to make up for it in my opinion and I'd give this show a good grade.
