Pro Wrestling Review # 1: The Tag Team Division

    Pro Wrestling Review
                                          #1: The Tag Team Division

Wwe’s tag team division used to be one of the biggest spectacles of the wwe, but lately though, it’s been an afterthought and something to fill time on ppvs.

In my first couple of articles I’m going to be analyzing the current state of wwe. My first article will be on the tag team division.

Lets first have a brief history lesson on the tag team division. It had its highest point in the late 1990s with names such as the Hardy Boyz, the Dudleys, D generation X and my one of my favorite Edge and Christian (hence where my twitter name came from). Then the division was a pretty good throughout most of the last decade especially lately with teams such as Jerisho and especially the new DX. But after that it’s all gone downhill. Once the hart dynasty got those new ugly dang championships its all gone bad. We’ve had fringin Santino Marella and Vladimir Kosov as the champions which was funny the first couple weeks and then became a disaster. Then we get the new nexus, oh jeez this team went on forever and was mostly on wwe superstars once CM Punk went on to become the wwe champion.

Then it looked like wwe might try to improve the division with Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston which looked great. But then Evan Bourne screwed the wwe over by getting a wellness policy violation. He also screwed himself since this was the biggest push of his career. But wwe was apparently still believed in the team because they had Kofi Kingston just carry around his tag team belt like it was a singles championship while Evan served his suspension. So Evan Bourne returned and reformed air bourne. But Evan wasn’t done, oh no. He decided to completely throw his career off a cliff and screw Kofi and the wwe again. That’s right he got another violation. So at that point wwe was done with the team and had air bourne lose the belts to Primo and Epico. We haven’t seen Bourne since, way to ruin your career kid.

After that it got worse Primo and Epico were mostly on superstars and then they lost the belts to Kofi and R-truth, oh and little Jimmy of course. Which should have totally been called two and half men. This team was basically a reimaging of air bourne. But wwe completely messed up this team too. They kind of made us forget about them. With the whole Team Teddy and team Laurinaitis they had lots of matches not together and it was hard to remember that they were the champions. Then after that wwe mainly just put them on superstars or for short time killer matches on Raw and PPVs.

So as you can see the tag team division has had its highs and lows, but lately it seems like the only one that cares about the tag team division is Teddy Long.

But all joking aside the wwe does really need improve their division and get it back up to what it used be. Because the tag team division could soon be gone completely like the cruiserweight division. That really would hurt the company. Wrestling shows and PPVs are partly built with real tag team matches (not just thrown together Teddy Long matches) and cruiserweight type matches to start of the show and really get fans into it. We have to have those fast paced fun matches. There’s already no cruiserweight division wwe really can’t afford to lose this as well.

The show is also of course built on the wwe championship matches as well, which seems to be all that wwe cares about these days. That and whatever John Cenas in, even if it’s the worst and most uncared about match ever, cena vs Laurinaitis. Yeah just worry about that and forget about all other divisions, the divas, midcard, tag team, even the world heavy weight championship. All of these divisions once great and working together to make and a great show. But no let’s just worry about Cena and the wwe championship (which they haven’t been doing very well with either). Well guess what smart guy you gotta make the fans stay and watch the main event. Now I Know they probably won’t stop watching something they already paid for (I don know though some of this stuff has been pretty bad) but sure as heck aren’t gonna buy it next month.

Now I’m not saying the tag team division will solve all of wwe’s problems I’ll get in to other things in different articles. But the tag team division is very important, this where other companies outclass the wwe because they have good tag teams. Tna has had a pretty good division over the years, it’s had it’s problems but it’s had names like the motorcity machine guns, The Young Bucks, Americas Most Wanted and in my opinion one of the best tag teams of the latter part of the last decade Beer Money (that is a little biased coming from a huge Beer Money mark). Then Ring of Honor has also had a pretty good division with the All Night Express, The Briscoes, The Kings of Wrestling, the American Wolves, and many more. WWE has to get their division back together

Some things they need to do to do that is

o      1. Stop having the champions off TV for periods of time, it makes people forget about them and not care about them

        2. Some actual good teams, not jobbers randomly thrown together because they’re both of the same race or just two jobers. Last year I thought that wwe needs to just use all these people who would be in the cruiserweight division and make them teams, but now they can’t do that because the midcarders back then have become such uncared about jobbers that you just get more teams that no one had any interest in the first place. Then wwe doesn’t help that by doing doing the 1st thing I said not to do. Last year wwe was said to be redoing the tag team division, there was rumors that they were looking in to hiring tag teams like beer money (which I’m glad they didn’t because both those guys are great in Tna right now)and also some from Ring of Honor. But none of that ended up happening. Also they have right Antonio Cesaro aka Claudio Castagnoli and in development apparently they have Chris Hero. Antonio Cesaro’s gimmick is ok at best but for some stupid reason they made him drop Askana which just made him worse. So why not start the tag team back up. Also guys like Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd need to become a real team and not just two jobbers who happen to be a team.

3.Act like you care. If we can tell that the wwe creative doesn’t give two cents about the tag team division then why should we. They need to really make it seem like the division maters in the company.

Now lately the wwe has been doing some things to make it better. I really like the Daniel Bryon and Kane thing (even though Bryon should really be world champion right now) it’s great that they’re at least using them in something. Still it seems more about them than the belts which just look like props it’s still good that they’re champions. Also we had Damian Sadow and Cody Rhodes (even though Cody should definitely be a world champ now) become a team. That's a good paring so they don’t just slip off the card. Also Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara is a great team and the Prime Time Player(who really need AW) attacked Rey and Sin Cara on raw. So wwe can fix this division they just need to get serious about it.
